Shanghai show to show robot technology
CHINA’S first robot competition television show the King of Bots will debut in Shanghai in the fourth quarter, featuring latest technologies like robot manufacture, artificial intelligence and Internet of Things.
The competition, which is expected to attract 200 teams globally, is held by Shanghai-based startup Themakers, which just finished a new round of financing of “several dozen million yuan” recently.
The robot competition requires competitors design and operate remote-controlled armed and armored machines designed to fight in an arena combat elimination tournament. Top 32 teams will be chosen from all competitions and their matches will be on shows in TV stations and online video websites.
“Technology has unique charm with integration with entertainment, media and fashion,” said Ru Chen, founder of Themakers.
The robot competition learns experiences from similar program BattleBots already aired in the United States. But the China’s competition has its own standards and rules, drafted by organizers and industry firms like Shenyang-based Siasun, a leading company in industrial robot sector in China.
Jet Li, the Kongfu star, helped to promote the competition as it represents “future technologies and a dream stage of young entrepreneurs.”
