Student-focused talent development promoted

THE annual conference on Higher Education Innovation and the Wisdom Lake Internationalization Summit of Higher Education was held at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University in Suzhou between May 19 and 21.
Under the theme of building first-class undergraduate education, educators from home and abroad gathered and shared their views on topics like student-centered talent development and Sino-foreign cooperative education.
Drummond Bone, Master of Balliol College at the University of Oxford, said that student education at British universities was conducted via lectures, group discussions and individual tutorial. He said the concept of student-centered education that was advocated in China has similarities with the British mode of higher education, which was problem and scenario-oriented.
Xi Youmin, executive president of Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University, said that higher education should always keep an eye on the future and cultivate talents meeting future demands.
He also introduced the innovative measures in integrated education at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University.
Besides cultivating professional elites, the university will also be developing a new approach to cultivate future industry leaders and elites.
