Tax declaration can be conducted online now

SHANGHAI residents with annual income over 120,000 yuan (US$17,368) can file their personal income tax through Alibaba's financial and payment affiliate Alipay's smartphone application, according to a latest release yesterday.
Local residents with annual income over 120,000 yuan are required to make a declaration by the end of March in the following year through the Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Local Taxation, and the local tax authority is the first to allow the function to be accessible through teaming up with Alipay.
Users need to verify their identity by completing the registration process on the online portal of the Shanghai Municipal Office of the State Administration of Tax.
The local tax authority has been providing inquiry and online reservation for tax payment services through the Alipay platform since late last year.
Internet companies have been teaming up with government authorities to provide public utility services and it has been a major driving force for administrative authorities to adopt the Internet Plus initiative to raise efficiency in recent years.
