Automaker suffers

GUANGZHOU Automobile Group, Chinese partner to Honda and Toyota, yesterday reported first-half earnings fell 26 percent from the same period of last year after the March 11 earthquake in Japan disrupted parts supply and restrained production.

The state-owned carmaker said net profit totaled 1.7 billion yuan (US$265 million), compared with 2.3 billion yuan a year earlier, according to its statement to the Hong Kong stock exchange yesterday.
