Car sales dip

VOLKSWAGEN AG, BMW and Mercedes-Benz said sales tumbled last month as tight credit and the economic recession sapped demand for the German companies' vehicles. Deliveries at VW, Europe's biggest car maker, dropped about 20 percent, compared with 2.9 percent in December, while BMW, the world leader in luxury autos, had a 24-percent decline, and Daimler AG's Mercedes unit suffered a fall of 31 percent.
