Chery Recalls 3,200 Vehicles On Flawed Design

CHERY Automobile Co Ltd, the largest private auto maker in China, will recall 3,200 vehicles from today due to a flawed design that could affect tire safety, the quality watchdog said.

The recalled vehicles include only its RIICH X1 series autos with 185/65R15 CHAMPIR0128 tires made between December 1, 2009, and January 12, 2010, said a statement on the website of the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine yesterday.

The faulty design could cause abnormal friction of the front tires with the chassis distance rods when braking, while sharply turning the steering wheel, the statement warned.

Chery said it would repair the flaws at no charge, said the statement. Car owners may contact Chery at hotline number 400-883-8888, GAQSIQ on 010-65537365, or visit its website.
