GM Launches On Star
GENERAL Motors Corp yesterday launched its OnStar telematics services in China to meet higher demand for smart on-board technologies.
Shanghai OnStar Telematics Co Ltd, a joint venture between GM, SAIC Group and Shanghai GM, will team up with China Telecom to offer telematics services nationwide from December.
Car owners will be able to enjoy 14 on-board information services such as automatic crash responses, emergency services and on demand remote diagnostics that aims to enhance driving safety.
The telematics services will also become a new profit generator as it has expanded from global positioning systems and navigation to more cutting-edge technologies.
GM said OnStar services will be available for Shanghai GM's models, initially on selected Cadillac before being added to the Buick and Chevrolet cars.
Toyota Motor Corp has also installed its telematics services on its Lexus vehicles in China.
