GM and UAW clash
GENERAL Motors and the United Auto Workers are fighting over plans to close 16 United States factories and import vehicles from other countries as a June 1 deadline for a concession deal draws near. The union yesterday said in an e-mail to members that it expects talks to intensify this week.
GM said in documents submitted to Congress that it plans to start importing small cars from China starting in 2011. The UAW said GM's plans will cost 21,000 US factory jobs.
