GM's green car
GENERAL Motors expects to sell its Chevrolet New Sail electric vehicles in 2013, adding to its green car portfolio as it aims to slash fuel consumption by 15 percent over the next five years.
The eco-friendly model will debut at the auto show in Shanghai next year before mass production. Meanwhile, Chevrolet Volt, GM's first electric car with extended range capability, will go on sale at the end of next year following its official debut in the United States this year.
Kevin Wale, president and managing director of General Motors China Group, said the group hopes to increase Volt's production as soon as it can, considering the huge response from US consumers and would take full advantage of robust auto demand in China to boost sales.
GM has also agreed to bring two Volt models to the World Expo in Shanghai to serve VIPs.
