Harman inks deal for car's audio system

CHINA'S booming and growing auto industry has not only attracted the world's leading car makers but also top audio equipment suppliers who are hoping customers in the world's biggest car market will hear them loud and clear.

Harman International Industries said at Auto Shanghai 2011 it will supply audio equipment in cars made by China's Geely Motors Co, BYD and BYD's joint venture with Daimler AG.

A 10-speaker premium audio system made by the US-based global audio and infotainment giant will be fitted in Geely's new luxury mid-size sedan, the Geely Emgrand EC8. The system includes a powerful subwoofer and a vehicle audio amplifier.

BYD'S latest new energy vehicle MVP E6 and the first electric sedan produced by the joint venture of BYD and Daimler will also sport Harmon's audio systems.

All the cars installed with Harman's audio systems may appear as early as 2013, Dinesh C. Paliwal, the company's chairman, president and CEO, said at the auto show.

The company has recently signed a US$1.6 billion deal with Volkswagen Group to provide audio systems in Volkswagen cars sold in Europe, America and Asia.

Other models under the group sold in Asia will also be equipped with the audio systems.
