Mercedes-Benz launches E-Class

THE legendary three-pointed star logo glittered at the Shanghai World Financial Center, the tallest skyscraper on Chinese mainland and the third tallest in the world, last night.

Mercedes-Benz (China) Ltd officially launched its latest generation of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class luxury sedan in China after a sneak peak during its Asia debut at April's Shanghai Auto Show.

As one of the most successful product line-ups in the Mercedes-Benz family, the imported E300 models will be available in two versions, the Elegance or Avantgarde, and sold between 618,000 yuan (US$90,461) and 668,000 yuan respectively.

Embodying the legacy and spirit of the Mercedes-Benz brand, the all-new E-Class would follow its previous eight generations and win the hearts of China's elite consumers with its promise as "The World Best Business Sedan."

"The E-Class has always been a guiding star for the Mercedes-Benz brand and the all-new ninth generation E-Class continues that trend, setting a new standard for executive sedans," said Klaus Maier, president & chief executive officer of Mercedes-Benz (China) Ltd.

"Bringing such a high-profile vehicle at the earliest possible time is a clear mark of Mercedes-Benz's long-term commitment to the China market, and as a timely response to the overwhelming enthusiasm of Chinese consumers," he said.

The new E-Class was imported into China just a few months after it hit the global market. New models are expected to rival BMW 5 series and Audi A6 cars in one of China's most profitable and highly competitive auto segments.

Since the birth of the first model in 1947, the E-Class has been an outstanding success with sales totaling more than 12 million units worldwide through eight succeeding generations.

The long-desired new ninth generation is also hotly pursued worldwide.

About 50,000 orders have been received in the first month since it was unveiled globally. In China, about 6,000 pre-orders have been received for the new E-Class since April when it made its first appearance among Asian customers.

Well-heeled individuals from private consumers to business customers, including managers and the self-employed, were target customers for the new E-Class and Chinese owners are likely to be much younger than owners in North America and Europe.

Compared with previous generations, Mercedes-Benz said the brand-new E-Class has bigger interior space to meet customers' higher demand for superior grand touring comfort.

It also features a host of innovative and upgraded technologies, bringing bold design and all-around safety.

Mercedes-Benz participating dealers have also launched a "Trade-in service program" together with UC dealers and brokers to help customers to trade in any make or model for the E-Class sedan.
