Changan chairman

CHANGAN Automotive Group named Zou Wenchao to be its chairman effective from July 4.

The 58-year-old Zou was previously the vice president of Changan's joint venture with Ford and Mazda. Since February 1997, he was also the vice chairman of Changan Auto Group in charge of strategic planning, investment and engineering construction.

Market observers said Zou's appointment reflects the intention of Changan's parent China South Industries Group to speed up consolidation in its auto business.

Since Zong joined Changan in 1996, he has helped to oversee the business of CSIG's auto-related subsidies.
