SAIC-GM showcases best of green, smart technology that will power the future of cars
SAIC-GM is in full pelt for the Shanghai Auto Show 2017 that carries the theme, “strive for excellence and lead the future.” With up to 47 car models from Cadillac, Buick and Chevrolet, SAIC-GM is set to present its strongest lineup in the history of this grand event.
With the main stand in Hall 1 at the National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai) and the Cadillac stand in Hall 7.1, SAIC-GM will showcase a batch of eye-catching concept cars, new models and star sellers in its 9,000 square meter exhibition arena this year.
Leading the pack are Chevrolet FNR-X, which is making its global debut, Cadillac Escala concept car on its Asia Pacific debut, the new generation of Buick Regal that is being presented for the first time in China, and Buick Velite 5, which hit the market on the eve of the show’s opening.
The lineup will be a visual gala with visitors getting to try out its avant-garde technologies and learn about SAIC-GM cars, its brands and the auto culture through a vivid interaction. More than that, SAIC-GM expects to turn over a new chapter into “excellence,” powered by green and smart technologies with the auto maker heading fast and steadily toward the future.
Buick’s twin stars to shine
Velite 5, the first extended range hybrid car under Buick, has just “greeted” consumers on the opening day of the auto show. The car represents “quality to beauty” with forward-looking design and the latest new energy technology from GM. Driven by eMotion, linked by eConnect and guarded by eProtect — all Buick technologies — the vehicle is expected to be an ideal solution for green and smart commute. It is a knock-out product of Buick’s full portfolio of green cars, making SAIC-GM a pioneer among joint ventures dedicated to faster and better execution of new energy strategy. Also at the center stage is the new generation of Buick Regal, which is making its China debut at the auto show. As one of the key models of Buick’s global pack, the new Regal combines Buick’s global resources of design and development, and is a brand upgrade. The car is 2,829mm in length — 92mm longer than its predecessor, making it a midsize sedan of both agility and stability — a perfect combination of elegance and dynamics.
It features a variety of power systems, including 30H for hybrid electric vehicle, 28T for high-performance turbo charging and 20T for low-capacity turbo charging. The models of 28T and 20T are equipped with a rare 9-speed Hydra Matic smart gearbox. With the latest eMotion technology for driving, the new generation Regal aims to meet the tailored demand of consumers.
The design of the exhibition areas also provides a visual enjoyment as well. Inspired by traditional Chinese aesthetics, it boasts a flowing spiritual and physical beauty. The stand embodies the Buick design, which is known for its effortless elegance and presence without pretense.
There is also space for Buick Avenir, which means “future” in French, It is Buick’s tribute to details and high–standard services.
Brand new Chevrolet
The new Chevrolet FNR-X, a full-function sports concept car, is marking its global premiere at the auto show. This model of Chevrolet FNR, with the initials standing for Find New Roads, aims to extend people’s imagination of a car by demonstrating avant-garde technologies.
The model can shift between form and function based on changes of drivers, driving environment and driving styles. With smart engines, automatic data acquisition system, digital LED lamps and tailored information-sharing terminals, Chevrolet FNR-X can satisfy diversified demand.
Along with FNR-X, 20 car models from Chevrolet are exhibited to demonstrate the brand’s feature of high performance and multiple functions, as they are embedded in the genes of the brand. Among the highlights are the sixth generation of legendary sports car Camaro SS, flagship sport-utility car Equinox Traverse Redline, and various star models of Pickup.
The Chevrolet stand has also allocated some space to showcase the culture of NASCAR, giving visitors a passionate touch of American racetracks. People can also interact with the brand in featured areas like a Disneyland-themed area.
Cadillac Escala thunder
Cadillac is bringing its complete product portfolio, led by Cadillac CT6, in Hall 1 and Hall 7.1 to display the latest design and concept of the brand. The thunder is Cadillac Escala, a concept car expected to open a new chapter for the brand.
Escala means “scale” in Spanish. The model, 5,347mm long and 1,984mm wide, features a “dual personality” interior crafted with distinctly different zones: the front is about intensely focused-modern technology with the application of connectivity and control system, while the rear is meant for relaxation with the use of fabric and leather.
Featuring a combination of “art and technology,” Escala employs classic Cadillac’s “flying Goddess” icon, steering wheel, vertical rear lamp and other elements but updates them with new technologies to represent “history and future” of Cadillac and redefine its “new American luxury” concept.
Cadillac is also showcasing the Escalade ESV Platinum extended edition, the new generation of Cadillac’s full-size SUV, at the auto show. The name of the model is a symbol of conquering spirit and extraordinary charm. Cadillac will introduce this model into Chinese market at a suggested retail price of 1.488 million yuan (US$215,492) to expand its product line and meet the diversified demand of high-end luxury car consumers. Authorized dealers of SAIC-GM Cadillac is accepting reservations from customers.
In addition, Cadillac is going to exhibit a series of models which allows visitors to experience the unique style of “new American luxury,” including the new American technology flagship CT6, new-energy luxury sedan CT6 plug-in hybrid, Cadillac’s best seller SUV XT5, luxury sport sedan ATS-L, new American style car 2017 XTS and the Escalade ESV Platinum sport-utility vehicle.
At the same time, Cadillac has set up an innovative experience area which displays lightweight technology, cutting-edge models, cutting-edge vehicles of Cadillac CT6 plug-in hybrid and BOSE Panaray area to show off Cadillac’s latest technologies.
