Showroom of the future
IT’S full throttle at Auto China in Beijing, an industry extravaganza where exhibitors are breaking records and cares are the stars.
China’s auto market, already the largest in the world, just keeps growing.
Small wonder, then, that the nation’s most important annual car exhibition, Auto China, is setting new records in terms of scale and international prominence this year.
The auto show, which officially opens to the public today in Beijing, covers an exhibition space of 230,000 square meters, or roughly the size of 30 soccer fields.
It will showcase 118 cars in world debuts, 71 concept cars and 79 new energy vehicles.
But what makes this year’s show truly special is its promise that the scantily-clad models and loud music of the past won’t be allowed to eclipse the real stars of the show — the cars.
As China increasingly becomes a motoring society, Auto China is resetting its tone to fit the times.
“Drive for a better future” is the theme of this year’s show, which is billed as a celebration of the most innovative technologies and outside-the-box concepts.
