Alipay to roll out in Marriott hotels, resorts
MARRIOTT International and Alibaba’s affiliate Ant Financial Services Group have agreed to roll out Alipay, a leading third-party online payment platform, to hotels and resorts under Marriott brands in China initially and globally later.
To launch the partnership, guests at 10 select Marriott hotels covering five brands in Shanghai, Beijing, Hong Kong and Sanya will have the option to pay for their stay, food and beverage purchases as well as meeting and event bookings through Alipay on their smartphones, the two companies jointly announced in Shanghai yesterday.
The option will be gradually expanded to other hotels in China and across Asia by middle of next year and later to Marriott International properties in key markets outside Asia by the end of 2016 to better serve Chinese travelers abroad.
“The agreement represents another major step in Marriott International’s creation of a complete mobile-powered travel experience that is effortless, seamless and more rewarding for our guests,” said Craig S. Smith, president and managing director for Asia-Pacific at Marriott International.
