Chinese people's trust in local companies highest in 5 years

CHINESE people’s trust in local businesses is at the highest level in five years, led by technology and consumer electronics companies, Edelman Group said in a report yesterday.

The 2014 Edelman Trust Barometer survey found 76 percent of Chinese respondents said they trust local com-panies, 2 percentage points higher than last year.

Technology companies gained the most trust with 93 percent, while entertainment and food and beverage firms are among the least trusted by the public, both below 75 percent, the report said.

Globally, the report found only 36 percent of respondents said they trust Chinese companies.

The survey measures trust levels in 27 countries and markets, and its China finding is based on around 1,500 questionnaires.
