Exercising helps sports drinks sales to surge
CHINA’S sports drink market surged twice as fast as the global average in 2015 due to strong consumer demand and more people picking up sports and exercising, according to a latest report yesterday.
China experienced the fastest growth pace between 2014 and 2015, jumping 25 percent annually compared with a growth rate of 10 percent globally, market research firm Mintel said. It added that consumption of sports drinks hit 1.4 billion liters.
The US remains the world’s biggest sports drinks market at 45 percent globally by volume in 2015, followed by China whose market has nearly tripled in size since 2010. China’s sports drink market is predicted to continue to benefit as more people show interest in sports and exercise.
China’s plan to build an US$850 billion sports economy by 2025 is also expected to yield huge potential for sports drinks, market wacthers said.
In China, the thirst for more natural energy drinks is evident because 40 percent of consumers say they would purchase a sports or energy drink product made from natural ingredients.
