Financial positions pay top dollar: job survey

CHINESE university accounting graduates are most likely to find relevant jobs while those majoring in finance are the best paid overall, a survey said yesterday.

More than 60 percent of accounting graduates are able to get jobs in accounting, assurance and tax because these jobs require expertise and are generally well paid, online job portal zhaopin.com said in a survey based on its database.

Financial graduates can earn higher salaries in securities, futures and investment positions as salaries will rise “substantially” after two years of experience, faster than an average five years required across all job positions.

“Financial students can choose from a wide range of relevant jobs in accounting, investment and insurance sectors,” the survey said. “Research and investment positions in securities and futures require high specialties and the pay is rising every year as experience builds up.”

However, bioengineering majors are the least likely to take work in the sector as under 10 percent will end up in biology, pharmaceutical, and medical-related jobs, and nearly 40 percent will go into sales, the survey said.

Salaries for fresh graduates across various positions range from 2,500 to 3,500 yuan (US$400-560) a month this year, while securities and futures posts usually start with 4,500 yuan per month.
