Guidelines for jewelers to provide gold touch
GOLD jewelry stores in Shanghai will be encouraged to uphold operational guidelines the city unveiled yesterday to boost retail service from today.
The new non-compulsory standards, the first-ever service and operational standards for jewelers in China, aim to guide Shanghai gold jewelry retailers to enhance their service level and brand awareness, Tao Liangmin, director of the standardization team at Shanghai Quality and Technology Supervision Bureau, told Shanghai Daily.
“We hope the gold jewelry retailers will self-regulate the operations in accordance with the new standards,” said Tao. “And customer satisfaction surveys will be carried out on a regular basis.”
Under the new standards, a salesperson has to wear a badge with job ID number while serving customers. He or she can only serve one customer and show one piece of jewelry at a time. Security guards are needed at each exit of the store.
The Shanghai Gold and Jewelry Trade Association began drafting the guidelines in 2010. The new standards were co-developed by the association and several of the city’s leading retailers, including Shanghai Laofengxiang Co.
