High-end clients and expansion under plan

MARKOR Furnishings, an arm of Shanghai-listed Markor International Furniture Co, said yesterday that it would maintain its expansion pace in China despite the sluggish property market and it also aims to provide design services to more high-end clients in the next three years.

Markor plans to open five to seven franchised furniture stores in the country this year on top of its nearly 30 stores now.

The premium furniture store also plans to differentiate itself by providing tailored services.

"We plan to turn into a design-focus company before 2011 to provide complete design solutions tailored for customers instead of offering single products," Louis Liu, the firm's director of public relations, media marketing and advertising, told Shanghai Daily. "As life improves, customers will favor all-round service to single products for better home decoration."

Markor also plans to launch a new product line in September and open accessory stores, which will sell products such as dinnerware and glasses, around November to attract new and younger customers.

According to an annual report, sales of Markor Furnishings jumped 24.49 percent to 734.74 million yuan (US$108.05 million).
