Metro Cash & Carry launches B2B website

METRO Cash & Carry Co yesterday launched a business-to-business shopping website as a part of its multichannel strategy to serve the needs of a wider customer group.

Metro also plans to double the number of its wholesale stores in the next three to four years, according to Metro Jinjiang Cash & Carry Co's Vice President Larry Feng.

Orders at its online store will be delivered to 31 cities and provinces through four dispatch centers in Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou and Wuhan. Logistics centers will be added at existing offline stores to enhance dispatch speed and efficiency.

The company hopes eventually 70 percent of online shoppers will be coming from regions that are not already covered by its existing offline stores.

Banking on its existing channels, Metro hopes to save a large amount on logistics and the online platform will add to the shopping channels for its existing 3 million customers from the catering and service industry.

Metro currently has 54 outlets in 39 domestic cities. In 2011, revenue was around 14 billion yuan (US$2.2 billion), up 18 percent from a year ago.
