Metro extends help

METRO Cash & Carry, the world's leading self-service wholesaler, aims to help more small- and medium-sized retailers to improve their operations and sales strategies and steer them toward better profitability.

The program, which has achieved huge success in Eastern Europe, was launched in China last year and is still in the experimental stage with 30 small retailers in eight cities.

With improved efficiency and differentiating themselves from other normal retailers, the pilot stores have seen their sales rise 40 percent, customer base grow 20 percent and their profits climb 10 percent, according to Metro.
