Number of Chinese free and easy tourists to rise
Free and easy tourists will rise from 30 percent to 70 percent of total Chinese visitors overseas this year, creating demand for various tourism services, an online travel service provider said yesterday.
To tap the rising trend of Chinese tourists striking out on their own when they travel overseas instead of being bunched into tour groups, tourism service providers, including Travelzoo and Qunar, are offering these free and easy tourists customized services, such as one-day city pass and meal discounts, industry insiders said.
“Young, rich and well-educated Chinese consumers have rising passion for leisure trips overseas in their own way,” said Vivian Hong, Travelzoo China president.
Her firm offers users customized services different from traditional ones like group tourism, air tickets and business hotels.
The company said it would start offering 750 to 1,000 overseas deals daily in the Chinese language and related localized services, tapping a great market potential.
Besides Travelzoo, Chinese online tourism market leaders Ctrip and Qunar both launched products, such as airline and hotel packages overseas, catering to them.
The number of China’s tourists traveling overseas may hit over 100 million in 2014, making the country the world’s No. 1 and helping it surpass the US and Germany for the first time, said the China National Tourism Administration.
In 2013, Chinese mainland travelers took 6.9 leisure trips on average that included getaways and long-haul holidays, a jump from the average of 4.2 in the previous year, a Travelzoo survey showed.
