Shanghai most keen on 鈥楧ouble 12鈥 fest
SHANGHAI residents were the most enthusiastic consumers in the “Double 12” shopping festival from Saturday to Monday after it was extended to three days from just one day (December 12) by Alibaba’s online to offline lifestyle services unit Koubei.
During the three-day promotion, 110 million consumers nationwide used Alipay’s payment service to pay for purchases and services. The financial services affiliate of Alibaba Group aims to connect not only online retailers and shoppers but also offline services and vendors.
Last Saturday, more than 49 million people used the payment service to pay their offline bills as Alipay has been offering incentives like shopping coupons and random discounts to draw consumers.
In Shanghai, 7.5 million consumers used Alipay to pay at offline venues such as supermarkets, restaurants and movie theaters, the highest among domestic cities, followed by Hangzhou and Beijing.
