Siemens Healthcare aims for leadership
SIEMENS Healthcare expects to be a market leader in every segment of its industry, and the Chinese market will be a core part of this plan for the next decade, Bernd Montag, chief executive officer of Siemens Healthcare, said yesterday in Shanghai.
Siemens Healthcare gained the status of independent legal person last year after its parent Siemens carried out a corporate restructuring that gave the health care subsidiary more freedom. Montag was then appointed head of Siemens Healthcare.
“We want to be the most trusted partner of our customers, and China is a strategic market for us to realize this,” Montag said. “China is determined to deal with the issues of a fast aging population and more chronic diseases, while the country has seen more rich people who create diversified demand — all that means the huge potential.”
In Montag’s view, the global health care industry is under a deep transformation, featured by centralization (by major companies), industrialization (to reduce costs) and more systemic management (so as to offer comprehensive services). It indicates health care providers should become stronger and capable of offering more products, while making them cost-effective.
“We are now trying to increase our product portfolio, and keep on innovating to produce more affordable health care products and services,” Montag said.
Already a front runner in medical imaging, laboratory diagnostics and medical information technology, Siemens Healthcare hopes to take care of patients from disease prevention, early detection and diagnosis, treatment to aftercare.
“China is an integral part of this global strategy,” Montag said. “The country is not only a production base, but a center for our research and development as well.”
With huge investment, Siemens Healthcare has made China home of some of its facilities, including Siemens International Medical Park in Shanghai, Siemens X-Ray Vacuum Technology Ltd in Wuxi and Siemens Shenzhen Magnetic Resonance Ltd.
The Shanghai park has developed into one of the largest medical device bases in China.
