Standards for online goods set up

A specialty e-commerce quality control standard committee was unveiled yesterday to facilitate quality control measures for goods sold via online retailers and enhance service standards for online shoppers in China.

The committee’s members, comprising mainly industry practitioners and researchers from state-backed think tanks and colleges, will jointly work on standards to specify how online vendors publish and introduce their goods on e-commerce sites. It will also unveil guidelines for e-commerce platforms to examine qualified vendors as well as handle consumers’ refund requests. These measures are set to enhance supervision and quality control of the e-commerce industry.

Zheng Junfang, Alibaba Group’s deputy chief financial officer, yesterday said the new standards are set to ensure quality inspection of the goods.
