Additional customs fees to be waived

IN a move to slash import and export fees amid the global economic downturn, China will temporarily stop charging administrative customs fees.
Inspection and quarantine charges for all goods as well as vehicles carrying them that come in and go out of China will be waived from October 1 to the end of this year, according to a joint statement by the Ministry of Finance and the National Development and Reform Commission.
The two government institutions also said customs supervision charges will be dropped from October 1.
These are among a series of incentives unveiled to maintain stable trade growth this year and help importers and exporters weather unfavorable economic conditions.
Other measures outlined by the NDRC include clarifying customs clearance procedures and faster processing of export tax rebates to ensure stable economic growth.
According to an earlier version released by the State Council, new administrative customs fees will be implemented from January 1, 2013, but yesterday's statement on the website of the Ministry of Finance didn't mention any details about the new rules or when they were likely to be carried out.
