Businesses display climate of confidence
A better business climate and a stronger economic recovery in China have boosted business confidence in the country in the last quarter of 2009, the National Bureau of Statistics said yesterday.
China's Business Confidence Index rose 7.6 points from a quarter earlier to 127.7 in the fourth quarter of last year. The country's Business Climate Index grew to 130.6 from 124.4 in the third quarter.
A reading above 100 signals optimism or expansion.
"The government's steadfast determination to sustain China's economy has boosted business confidence to a great extent," said Li Maoyu, an analyst at Changjiang Securities Co. "Its fast response to the crisis and the decision to continue relatively easy policies this year have created an amiable environment for businesses."
Xu Xianchun, the bureau's deputy director, said on Wednesday that China's economy has staged a V-shaped recovery last year and is expected to continue to grow in 2010.
The component indices showed that information technology and software firms expressed the strongest business confidence at 151.7 points. It was followed by real estate firms at 138.2 and construction companies at 136.5.
The index for business climate in IT and software was top with 153.5 points, while the index for manufacturing rose 7.6 points to 128.1.
