City Pushes Regional Financial Cooperation
SHANGHAI will allocate more resources to promote financial cooperation among East Asian nations, Vice Mayor Tu Guangshao said over the weekend.
This will help build Shanghai into an international financial hub by 2020, he said.
"We hope to provide better platforms for East Asian countries to communicate and set up multiple-level channels for closer regional collaboration," Tu told the Shanghai Forum on Asian Financial Cooperation.
"Shanghai has a relatively comprehensive financial system, with almost all core elements such as markets for foreign exchange and gold," he said. "The city is also strengthening efforts to upgrade its infrastructure for stricter supervision and better services."
Government officials and financial experts will gather in the city on Friday for this year's Lujiazui Financial Forum.
