Gaopeng, Groupon's joint venture in China, is reportedly laying off as many as 50 employees in its Shanghai office as severe competition forces it to further cut costs.
Gaopeng is sacking half of its website editors in its Shanghai office, which has between 300 and 400 employees, People's Daily reported yesterday, citing an unidentified source at the company.
Department heads started to ask employees to sign resignation letters and leave the office on Thursday afternoon, the source said.
