Grain output high

CHINA'S grain output may reach a record high of 550 million tons this year, the Ministry of Agriculture said yesterday.

The total amount of land dedicated to growing grain is set at about 110 million hectares this year, according to a statement on the ministry's website.

Yields of summer grain and early rice have already surpassed record highs in 2009, the statement said. This year's yield of autumn grain may exceed that of last year, the statement said.

China's grain output rose 2.9 percent on an annual basis to 546.61 million tons in 2010, according to the National Bureau of Statistics.
