Mayor all ears for top advice

IT'S time to talk with Shanghai's Mayor Han Zheng about the lessons learned from the global financial crisis.

And that's what the chairmen and chief executives of the world's leading corporations will do in Shanghai today.

About 40 top leaders from global enterprises will share their opinions and experience at the 21th International Business Leaders' Advisory Council.

The theme this year is "Lessons Learned from the Global Financial Crisis in Helping the Acceleration of the Economic Transformation of Shanghai."

Nearly 400 foreign delegates will participate in the meeting while about 100 Chinese delegates, including heads of big state-owned companies and some elite private firms, will also be present. Samuel A DiPiazza, chief executive officer of PricewaterhouseCoopers, will chair the council this year.

Yesterday, council members visited Chongming Island, China's third largest island, through the newly-built Changjiang Tunnel-Bridge Expressway. They became the first batch of foreign visitors to the facility which was opened yesterday.

They also went to Dongtan, a wetland in Chongming which harbors thousands of birds of rare species, and were invited to participate in a bird banding event in which they set free birds for research.

Today they will share their wisdom with mayor and help mastermind Shanghai's business and economic future.
