Mayor urges bolder path to economic shift
SHANGHAI should manage a low-carbon shift to a service-led and advanced manufacturing-led economic growth model, and encourage private businesses to take more active part in the shift, Mayor Han Zheng said today.
He also urged government officials to provide more efficient services and become bolder to attempt some breakthroughs to help innovative and high-tech firms.
"Shanghai's economic restructuring demanded immediate acceleration," Han said during a meeting with members of the city's top political advisory body.
"We should put the city's development into a broader perspective of the nation and even the world, and try to take a leading position in a few strategic sectors."
Shanghai was the first city in China to use and produce pioneer goods such as bulbs and telephones, not many years ago, Han said, and Shanghai should resume its glory.
