Ningbo in deal with local firms
NINGBO City in Zhejiang Province will sign a 42 billion yuan (US$6.5 billion) pact with companies in Shanghai today as part of efforts to support Shanghai's transformation into an international financial and shipping center.
The pact includes 38 cooperative projects in the cargo, new energy, logistics, infrastructure and tourism industries.
Su Limian, vice mayor of Ningbo, said yesterday the city's financial and shipping industries have benefitted from taking part in Shanghai's quest to become a global financial and shipping center by 2020.
Su said Ningbo handled 410 million tons of cargo and container throughput had reached 13 million TEUs since working with Shanghai. The vice mayor added that logistics had become a mainstay industry for the city.
"Ningbo wants to be a good example for other cities in the Yangtze Delta and help Shanghai," said Su.
