PPI's steeper fall
SHANGHAI'S Producer Price Index, the factory-gate gauge of inflation, posted a steeper drop of 1.1 percent in April from a year earlier, the Shanghai Statistics Bureau said yesterday.
The PPI fell 0.9 percent in March, which indicated then that inflationary pressure on the consumer prices would wane in the future, analysts said.
Shanghai's Consumer Price Index, the main gauge of inflation, rose 3.6 percent last month, easing from the 3.8 percent increase in March.
