Rail Link To Indian Ocean
MYANMAR and China have agreed to build a rail link connecting southwest China with the Indian Ocean, Myanmar officials said yesterday.
The railroad will be built in five stages over the next three years and will stretch for a total of 1,215 kilometers, from the Kyaukphyu deep-sea port in Myanmar's Western Rakhine State to China's Yunnan Province, a senior official at Myanmar's Ministry of Rail Transport, said.
"The entire project also includes construction of a highway running parallel to the railroad," said the official.
