SME index climbs
THE confidence of Chinese small and medium enterprises began to stabilize but was still pessimistic in the fourth quarter of last year after two straight quarters of decline, a private survey showed yesterday. The China SME Confidence Index rose to 47.28 in the fourth quarter from 46.71 in the third quarter, the Standard Chartered Bank said. A reading below 50 indicates a negative outlook. From the geographic perspective, the Index for north China rebounded and came out slightly ahead of that for east, south and west China.
