Shanghai's Factories Shine
SHANGHAI'S industrial production jumped 17.5 percent in February from a year earlier to 182.1 billion yuan (US$26.6 billion), the Shanghai Statistics Bureau said yesterday.
Output in state-owned enterprises rose 18.7 percent while that at overseas-funded factories surged 24.7 percent.
Output at Shanghai's six key industries - vehicles, oil refinery, fine steel, machinery equipment, IT and biomedicine - surged 26.1 percent annually to 120.1 billion yuan.
The city's industrial output in the first two months soared 32.4 percent to 406.9 billion yuan. But the expansion slowed in February because many factories were shut for the Spring Festival.
