UK firms are urged to invest in China
CHINA'S drive to increase domestic consumption and move to higher value manufacturing offers a "great opportunity?" for British companies to increase investment in the country, Britain's ambassador to China said yesterday.
Speaking in Shanghai at the launch of the British Business Awards, which recognize British companies working in China, Sebastian Wood said a slowing Chinese economy should not deter companies from investing in the country.
"China is the greatest growth story in the world today," Wood said.
It was natural for China's growth to slow but for the quality of growth to increase, he said.
"This is good for British companies. They are well designed to supply goods and services to China as it becomes more affluent and urbanized and needs more services and consumer goods."
He added: "I would like more British creative companies and designers to bring their work to China, because I think they will find a welcoming market."
