Cnooc ConocoPhillips Bohai oilfield has leak: media reports

PENGLAI 19-3 oilfield, China's biggest oil and gas field under operation, in Bohai Bay had a leak early this month, media reports said. The project is co-developed by Cnooc Ltd and ConocoPhillips.

ConocoPhillips China admitted that it's the project's operator but declined to comment on the current condition of the oil field and how the leak was dealt with, the Beijing Times reported today.

Citing people it didn't identify, Southern Weekend newspaper reported yesterday that authorities found a spill measuring 3 kilometers (1.9 miles) by 30 meters in the sea around June 10.

The oil has been cleaned up while the State Oceanic Administration has launched an investigation into the accident and will hold a press conference in July to unveil the probe results, Southern Weekend said.

Officials at Cnooc were unavailable to comment, according to the two newspapers.
