Dow Chemical to build water treatment plant in Huzhou

DOW Chemical Co sees great potential in China's water treatment market as it plans a new plant in east China.
The new facility, in Huzhou, Zhejiang Province, will produce reverse osmosis membrane elements when production starts in 2013, the US-based company announced today in Shanghai without saying how much they will invest in the project.
The proposed facility will use cutting-edge technology for water desalination and wastewater reuse of portable, non-portable and industrial water, it said.
Cases of water pollution have been reported over time across China. Vice Minister of Environmental Protection Wu Xiaoqing said this week the near-shore water problem of major industrial zones in the coastal region was particularly serious.
Dow's investment also comes as China is set to enact new standards for drinking water next month.
"Stricter standards will for sure create more business opportunities," said Wang Xiaolan, Asia Pacific commercial director of Dow Water & Process Solutions.
The new plant will join Dow's existing ultra-filtration manufacturing site in Huzhou and an ion exchange resin facility in Shanghai.
