EVONIK Industries, the German specialty chemicals maker, yesterday said China sales rose 4 percent to 856 million euros (US$1.1 billion) last year on substantial growth in demand for products used in automotive and construction industries and stable demand in the pharmaceuticals and animal feeds sectors.

With strong growth in the first quarter, China sales this year are expected to exceed 1 billion euros, said Yu Dahai, the firm's China president.
