Jinsha hydro power
CHINA is preparing to build a massive hydro power project on the Jinsha River, which is at the upper reach of the nation's longest river, the Yangtze, along the border of southwestern provinces of Sichuan and Yunnan.
The initial feasibility study for the project, which began in 2003, has passed examination by related departments, according to China Three Gorges Corp.
Named Wudongde, the hydro power project, which can also control flooding, will have a total installed capacity of 8.7 million kilowatts with a storage capacity of 7.4 billion cubic meters for its reservoir.
