BNP Paribas creates new position for China

BNP Paribas created a new position to lead business development in China as the French banking group seeks to bolster growth in the region.

The bank said in a statement earlier that it has appointed Paul Yang as the regional head for China’s mainland, Hong Kong and Taiwan, as well as head of country for the mainland. The appointment takes effect next month.

Yang will continue as both head for Hong Kong and chief executive officer of the bank’s Hong Kong branch.

Based in Hong Kong, Yang will report to Eric Raynaud, CEO of BNP Paribas for Asia Pacific.

Raynaud said: “As the China market continues to open up and becomes increasingly important to the global economy, it is key for us to continuously step up our integrated approach in growing our business and serving our clients in the region. Therefore, we’ve decided to create a new role to look after China which is a crucial market in our Asia Pacific development plan.”

Yang joined BNP Paribas in 1988 and has held various senior positions in France and Asia over the years. He was appointed CEO of the bank's Hong Kong branch in 2011.
