Bankcard spending surges in Golden Week
BANKCARD transactions soared during China's eight-day public holiday, which ended on Sunday, as consumers splashed out both at home and abroad, China UnionPay said yesterday.
Domestic bankcard transactions surged 41 percent year on year during the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day break while bankcard spending overseas rose 33 percent, said UnionPay, China's sole bankcard transaction firm.
Spending at department stores and supermarkets soared 46 percent and 39 percent respectively from a year earlier. Transactions at domestic restaurants gained 27 percent on an annual basis.
