Banks seek approval

UBS AG, Switzerland's largest bank, and Credit Agricole SA's Calyon investment-banking unit have applied to locally incorporate their China units as they seek to extend operations over here. The government has granted preliminary approval for their local business registration, according to a statement released by the State Administration for Industry and Commerce.
