Chinese bonds in Citi
CITIGROUP will include China’s onshore bonds in its emerging markets and regional indexes from February 1, 2018, the US bank said yesterday.
Citi said earlier that it will include China’s onshore government bonds in its three government bond indexes — which track emerging markets, Asian markets and Asia-Pacific markets respectively — and a new sub-index of the widely used World Government Bond Index. China’s bonds will then account for 52.45 percent of the emerging markets bond index, 56.56 percent of the Asian government bond index and 47.33 percent of the Asia-Pacific government bond index, according to data released by Citi, nearly halving the weightings of existing constituent countries.
