Chinese shares up 1.67% on strong bank stocks performance

CHINESE shares rose 1.67 percent today on strong bank shares, recovering from losses in last Friday's market plunge.
The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index gained 45.79 points to close at 2,789.55. The Shenzhen Component Index closed at 10,768.96 points, up 244.83 points, or 2.33 percent.
Aggregate turnover shrank to 168.26 billion yuan (US$24.74 billion) from 191.24 billion yuan last Friday.
