City’s FTZ leading the way
CALLING for more innovation in free trade zones, President Xi Jinping said their key tasks needed to be identified, so that successes could be rolled out nationwide.
He said the Shanghai government, the Ministry of Commerce, and others had worked to overcome difficulties in the creation of the city’s pilot FTZ, with a list of important achievements being copied to other parts of the country.
In recent remarks, Premier Li Keqiang said valuable experience had been accumulated for comprehensively deepening reform and promoting the nation’s opening-up.
Since the Shanghai zone was launched in September 2013, other provincial regions now had FTZs, including Tianjin, as well as the provinces of Fujian and Guangdong.
The Shanghai FTZ has seen about 40,000 newly registered enterprises emerging over the past three years, surpassing the total number for the 20 years before the zone opened.
