E-commerce speeds ahead
E-COMMERCE remains the fastest growing sales channel for fast moving consumer goods in China during the first quarter, with spending rising 35 percent via online channels, Kantar Worldpanel said in a latest report.
Overall spending in fast moving consumer goods in the first three months grew just 1.7 percent year on year, while spending through hypermarkets, supermarkets and convenience stores added a mere 0.3 percent as big retail formats struggled to lure shoppers back to stores, the report said.
Provincial capitals and prefecture-level cities enjoyed faster growth of 2.5 percent but slower growth was seen in the top-tier cities, the report said.
